The 2010 Transcore Classic Challenge has been run and won. From all feedback it was a tremendous success, flowing well, without any hiccups, a brilliant mix of stages and a great social atmosphere throughout the 3 nights and 2 days of events.
There was some brilliant driving – it’s so good to see a well controlled car being driven really hard. And there was plenty of that.
We had some attrition especially on Day 2 – cars let down assortedly by a gearbox, engine, fuel pump, fuel tank, kerb and a fence… Interestingly, in addition to two others, cars No 22, 23, 24 & 25 failed to finish. Fortunately nothing too serious that can’t be repaired.
Everyone’s favourite stage? An almost even split between The Cut and East Picton, with the balance tipping in favour of the latter.

Thanks - a lot of people deserve thanks for their efforts in making the event work so well:
- Will White – as a local in the Bunbury area did a brilliant job helping co-ordinate things down there. You couldn’t ask for a more helpful person.
- Our venues – while the costs and complexity in getting approvals are increasing, at least we can get some great venues still.
- Our stage commanders – Martin McCoy, Sue Ridley, Brock Mann, Rubin Sadique, Andy Hamilton, Tim Fowler, Franz Esterbauer. Other key officials – Ian Man – Results, Natalie Holburn – Steward. These guys put in really long hours of physically and mentally hard work for which we're all extremely thankful.
- Volunteer marshals – out there in the sun and rain. A big Thank You.
- And of course a big thanks to our event sponsor Transcore.
Rally Director’s Award for the most impressive car.
There’s something un-natural about the sound of Rod Willis’ V8 MX5, and it’s an impressive car – but it didn’t win this award.
And the Caruso Jaguar – what can you say – always impressive always driven spectacularly. Bit it’s not the winner...
Those hot, early model Porsche 911s are pretty special too.
But having consulted with some of the other senior officials about this, and they agreed with the Rally Director's feeling on the car which should win this award – one that excels beyond expectation - and it’s Chris Fabian’s 1964 Volkswagen Beetle. This announcement was met with a huge cheer in the room.
Results
After the problem which caused us to pull the pin at the end of the day, we decided that rather than scrub the stages altogether, we would allocate times for those few remaining cars, of the average of their own times on the previous two runs on those same courses. Thos which did not finish got DNF, not average scores.
Congratulations to all the winners - tremendous effort - especially for outright winner Pete Major who was quite unwell on the last day and in spite of missing the last stages, had performed so exceptionally well he was able to win outright. Well done!
