2009 Classic Challenge...

As they say, the rally has been run and won... After a tremendous two days and nights, awards were presented at a function in Subiaco where a very happy crowd cheered the winners, the organizers, the sponsors and the officials.

Participants were treated to perfect weather for the rally, in an event where there was a great feeling of friendliness with all involved.

34 stages were completed, and everyone finished feeling thoroughly satisfied. Unfortunately a few cars succumbed to mechanical problems, but that's rallying...

Some new venues were included in the event this year, including a great new short closed road sprint in metropolitan Perth. This was a great first stage, really enjoyed by all. After two runs there it was off to the Speed Dome - an old favourite of the Challenge - where three stages were run, before heading back to the sprint for another run. Thereafter the rally headed south, destination Mandurah. Nine stages were run in the Mandurah area, including two runs of the exciting night stage.

After a dinner at the Rally HQ hotel, the next day began with a drive to the Motorplex in Kwinana, where a series of events were stages - including a fast autokhana, a brilliant Sprint course and runs on the drag strip.

After several runs on each course, the cars headed back to Perth, via two stages at Cockburn Gateway Shopping City. The next location was Gloucester Park in East Perth where four stages were run, three of which were in new locations within the grounds.

Finally, it was back to the Speed Dome for the final two stages before everyone gathered that evening for the Awards presentations. A full-on event, which by all accounts was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

Congratulations to all the award winners - there was some brilliant driving to be witnessed over the course of the weekend.

Thanks to all the key officials: Paul Blank, Tim Fowler, Ian Mann, Martin McCoy, Andy Hamilton, Brock Mann & Terry Mann. Thanks also to Vince Troth, Rubin Sadique, Allan Herring, Priscilla Mann, Anne Douglas, Natalie Holburn, Margaret Fowler, Rod Dines and the teams of officials who helped throughout.

Thankfully there were no accidents, though a few wheels came into contact with kerbs, and a small number of cars suffered mechanical issues - some of which were able to re-start later in the event. All in all, another very successful and enjoyable rally.

UPDATE: April 14 - After the Easter break the AEM office is open again and we still have a number of places available for entrants in the Classic Challenge. So if you've been thinkin about getting into the best grass-roots level tarmac event in Australia, don't delay. Call or email the offic if you have any questions...

We're also seeking a small number of volunteer officials to help out at a few key locations during the event. This gets you right in on the action, including at some locations not open to the public. We need people usually only for a couple of hours at a time. Please contact the rally office if you think you might be able to help out - 9271 0101 or info@classicrally.com.au

UPDATE: April 6 - We've confirmed that the event now includes 27 competition stages, including a brilliant new closed-road stage with multiple runs. There are several completely new courses to be run during the event. Only 3 weeks to go - act now to get your entry in...

Click here for the entry application form.          Click here to read the event regulations.

Enjoy 2 days and 3 nights of the best motor sport and social events you can imagine. The thrills of over 30 stages - sprints, drags, motorkhanas, superkhanas, speed events and more... Plus great social events, without the hassles of navigation. All in the most affordable, best value touring road rally in Australia.

The 2009 Transcore Classic Challenge offers an exciting mix of competition driving stages over two full days, with an overnight outside the metro area, including a night stage under lights.

With a great variety of competitive stages, including some among the state’s leading venues - plus several unique to this event, the Transcore Classic Challenge offers an exciting and challenging weekend of motor sport fun.

There’s no need to modify your car, you don’t need a race suit. This event’s ideal for anyone from first-timers to experts.

The format was upgraded last year, to the acclaim of all involved, and was a huge success. And we’re ensuring the 2009 event will keep us ahead of the game.

It’s easy to enter. You need 2 people per car (either can drive any stage, but one run per car per stage - with multiple runs at some stages), good quality helmets, a first aid kit and fire extinguisher. The Roadbook will give instructions on the route to take between stages and course maps, with no navigation tests.

Places are limited, so act now - get your entry in! We had a big waiting list last year, so make sure you don't miss out...  Send us your email address and we will email the Entry Form to you.

Results will be calculated on un-handicapped placings again this year. There will be plenty of categories for awards, determined by a car’s engine size and year of manufacture. And there’s no mind-bending navigation.

Our proven streamlined system ensures minimal queuing (though some is inevitable - and gives a chance to watch previous competitors tackle courses). Our highly experienced team will ensure smooth sailing for all!

Ask anyone who has competed in the last few years - and they’re sure to give you very positive remarks. The stages were exciting, the event ran to schedule, we had a great group of participants and variety of cars...

Participants will be supplied with detailed Roadbooks each day, giving details of the route between stages, competition course maps and other important information.

We expect to have over 25 competitive driving stages this year, including some exciting brand new stages.

We’re also looking for marshals - if you’d like to volunteer and be close to the action for part or all of the weekend, please contact the rally office.

We limit entries to ensure our timetable can be adhered to during the event. Even if you’re not sure what car you’ll be entering, or who your co-driver will be, apply now to ensure you get a place in 2009’s great rallying event... We had a waiting list last year, so don't miss out.
