The presentation night held in Subiaco drew an appreciative crowd of participants. Automotive Events Management is proud to announce the second year of their motor sport championship in WA, aimed at the grass-roots level of the sport.
Named in memory of the late Biante Model Cars founder Trevor Young, the Biante Trevor Young Championship incorporates the series of Superkhana events and the Classic Challenge Touring Road Rally run during the year.
The trophies to be awarded at the year’s end big presentation function will feature some of the wonderfully high quality model cars that Biante manufactures and imports.
Participants in the events will need to register for the Championship and points will be awarded as the year progresses. Competitors will be able to miss one event or drop their worst result during the year. The rules are very straightforward. Extra points will be allocated to the Classic Challenge (being held in May) as the two-day event involves much more driving.
The events are open to all people and cars, and are designed to be as well suited to novices as the experts. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, as well as outright. There is no cost to register for the Championship.
Bev Young from Biante Model Cars was keen to have the company involved, “We’ve had a long association with Automotive Events Management and are very pleased to be supporting this new championship. It’s a great opportunity to remember Trevor and be connected with events which are open to every driver, not just the top-notch racers.”
AEM Principal Paul Blank was equally enthusiastic, saying "It is fitting to honour Trevor Young, who was such a strong supporter of motor sport, especially with classic cars with this new Championship. The concept also adds a new dimension to our calendar of events through the year." As can be seen from the 2006 winners list, a wide variety of cars was among the winners.

The rules for the championship:
Points will be awarded for Superkhana events and Classic Challenge starting in April 2007.
Points will be awarded by placings in events.
Double points will be allocated for the Classic Challenge.
Entrants may miss one Superkhana. If an entrant competes in every Superkhana, their worst result achieved in a Superkhana during the year will be deleted.
Registration can be done at any time, and past results will be counted.
The same vehicle/driver combination must be used throughout the year.
Categories will be as per the events:
- Up to 1965 up to 2-litres
- Up to 1965 over 2-litres
- 1966-1985 up to 2-litres
- 1966-1985 over 2-litres
- 1986-2006 up to 2-litres
- 1986-2006 over 2-litres
- 4WD Turbo Class
- And if there are sufficient entries, a rear-engine Porsche Class
An outright winner will also be announced.
