Results, Report & Photos
The inaugural Fabcar 1-Day Classic has been run and won. An exciting day, packed full of motor sport challenges took place on November 2nd in perfect weather. A field of sixty cars, representing 21 makes took part completing 17 competitive stages stretching over the Perth metropolitan area, spanning Midvale to Kwinana. Stages included sprints, drags, autokhanas and superkhanas.
There were some exceptional exhibitions of driving skill, which was a pleasure to watch. Only one car sustained any panel damage on the final stage, which was pretty minor. A couple of cars broke axles - one was replaced within record time so the car didn't miss any stages. A couple of cars suffered mechanical gremlins.
The fun factor was high all day. The event had a friendly social feel to it which was appreciated by all involved. Even the volunteer officials enjoyed the event.
"I just wanted write and tell you I had a blast yesterday, the event was run very well, heaps of stages and driving made it action packed, a friendly atmosphere amongst competitors and officials made it the most enjoyable rally I have run in." according to one competitor who has participated in most rally style events in WA in an email after the event. While another emailed "Just wanted to say a big thanks for organizing and running the event. My navvie and myself had an absolute ball!" and another email said: "PLEASE try to do as many of these events every year as possible, 4 including the 2-day Classic Challenge would be great. I will happily pre-register for all of them next year. It's a really good value day compared with other events..." From another entrant: "Your events just seem to get better and better. The day had a great atmosphere about it with a lot of people I haven't seen before coming up and introducing themselves. The officials did a fantastic job and the event ran so smoothly thanks to them." and "The one day layout is a fantastic way to go. It would be great to see the Classic Challenge kept with a few one day events through the year." Plus these remarks: "Thanks for organising the Fabcar event – a really well run day, and a lot of fun. I reckon that format has a lot going for it, in that you get a lot of track time, some interesting locations, and good circuits. I especially liked the fact that there were courses to suit all the different types of cars." and "my navigator and I really enjoyed the day, and we’ll be signing up for the next, and the next, and what-ever else you can serve up."
