With
another full field of entries we had a great mixture of cars entered
- as usual - our final event of the year was another
successful day at the Speed Dome. We had quite a number of first
timers among the field, many of whom said they'd be back...
Two different courses were run, with two runs on each. We had a visit from the Ferrari Club, and their President did a demonstration lap in his yellow TR512 just before the course change. Participants and spectators were treated to a variety of Ferraris in the carpark, spanning a pair of 246GT Dinos to a 599 Maranello.
There was plenty of driving skill being exhibited. Jason Hallam impressed with his car control, drifting his Skyline around the course at the absolute limit much of the time. Darren Weise's V8 Torana was as spectacular as ever and all the modern 4WD turbo cars showed why they're so hard to beat.
It's interesting to see some new names high on the results rankings. Well done to Adrian Tizzano for his first time on top of the list. Second place-getter Bruce Hawley, a regular competitor , has never finished this high. And newcomer Jonathan Durrant placed very well in his PRB, being the fastest of the 2WD cars, just ahead of David Brittain's BMW M3. Congratulations to our winner and all the placegetters.

September 20 Superkhana - Results, report & photos
We had a full field of entries on a day with pretty dodgy weather - patches of rain wetting the course throughout the day. The sun would shine, track dry out, then rain again... Of course whenever open cars like the Super 7s or Ron Fabry's neat MG Midget went on the track, it rained.
As always we had an excellent variety of cars entered. There's few events anywhere in which you could see a V8 Torana, Bugeye Sprite, new Nissan GTR, Mercedes SLK AMG, Caterham 7, Suzuki Swift and classic Porsche Turbo competing together. The Fiat Lancia Club used the event as a part of their championship, adding to the numbers on the day.
One of the highlights was Inno Tizzano's new Nissan GTR R35, which he collected from Fabcar on Friday, and put it to the test on Sunday... Also noteworthy was the builder of Vince Troth's Fiat 131 Abarth replica, Paul Scambler, visiting from Victoria who drove his old car several years after selling it to Vince.
The results were looking like they'd favour the all-wheel-drive cars, but Warwick Gates' naturally aspirated MX5 and Tsung Lee's Honda Civic ensured it wasn't a 4WD benefit. Unfortunately Matthew Craig's 1968 Corolla (with turbo) came to an unfortunate end - he was fine, just very annoyed with himself for damaging the car. A few others had big looses too. Piotr Zmigrodzki using his newly acquired WRX told how he thought its tyres were made from "old potatoes or something", then promptly spun the car in the finish garage... And Jason Cohen managed to spin his BMW M3 twice in the same place, and in another location... Well done to his young brother Robert on his first event.
Congratulations to those who ranked high in the results and drove so well in such changing conditions. Tsung Lee will be especially thrilled to have got a front wheel drive car so high in the rankings - well done (especially given the weather). Aside from one garage penalty, Warwick Gates did very well in his naturally aspirated MX5. And Vince Troth should be pretty pleased with his placing. Well done to the two top place-getters, both in Evo8s. Simon Gunson managed to break the 46-second barrier twice, taking him to the top spot. Provisional results are shown below. August 23 Superkhana - Report, results & photos
After some atrociously wet days everyone's fingers were crossed hoping that the rain would stay away on our August Superkhana a day - and we were rewarded with a dry track all day. There were sunny patches, but much of the day was cold and blustery. Nobody was happier than Evan Jones who had entered a Lotus 7 replica - not the most weather-proof cars... Nevertheless, a full field turned up to test their cars and skills on a course we've run twice before in past years.
We had a great variety of cars entered - as always - and several which we hadn't seen before. The 1964 VW Beetle of Chris Fabian surprised a few people. And Jim Grundy's high performance turbo Subaru Brumby brought out a few wry smiles amongst the onlookers... Probably the most powerful car on the day was the new 6-litre V8 Holden SSV ute which Glen Renshaw had entered - looking as if it really needed a circuit like Bathurst to do it justice.
Ron Fabry debuted his recently finished MG Midget on the day - looking resplendent in re with white graphics. Driving her Mini Cooper S Lucinda Allen used the Superkhana as her introduction to motorsport - and thoroughly enjoyed herself - while her father James entered his Porsche 911. We has several people competing at the venue for the first time.
Congratulations to long time AEM event competitor Denis Conway for his first outright win. Denis was driving especially well as noted by some of the officials on the day, and the results prove it. Rod Willis brought his supercharged MX5 into third place as the highest finishing 2-wheel drive car on the day. Joe Douglas achieved fastest time of the day on his final run in his Evo 8 MR.
It is interesting to see Bill Davis and Drew Watkins achieving almost exactly the same overall result in their 180SXs and Pizzata and Cuccovia team driving the Alfasud Ti doing much the same.

REPORT - March 22 - MG Car Club & Porsche Club Superkhanas
We arranged closed-session Superkhanas for the MG Car Club and Porsche Club on March 22nd, which took place in beautiful sunny weather with a light breeze - just perfect for an enjoyable day of motorsport. The morning session saw the MG event, with invited Triumphs and a few others. In the afternoon the Porsches descended on the Speed Dome and ran a longer course, with a smaller group of cars. There was some excellent and spectacular driving throughout the day. And remarkably, in the entire day only one witches hat was hit...

March 8 Superkhana - report, results & photos
It was a full day for officials at the Speed Dome in early March. A morning session was held as an exclusive Evo versus WRX event, which saw some spectacular driving. Luckily for these turbocharged cars it wasn't so warm in the morning. However an afternoon session, open to all comers, saw the temperatures soar. Nonetheless nothing melted and 50 cars circulated successfully around the course four times each.
We probably had the broadest range of cars we'd seen for a while, with 22 different makes of car competing. Ages of the cars spanned 1960 to 2008. Such variety, as always proved a treat to watch, and the spectator crowd was kept well entertained all day.
Dave Kendall was back after a motorsport-free hiatus, and back in style, posting some excellent times and taking out first place. Fellow Evo driver Simon Gunson did very well too, actually posting the fastest time of the event on his first run. Murray Armenti borrowed Simon's Evo for the afternoon, and if not for a penalty on his first run would have placed fourth. Of course there are a lot of "if onlys" in motorsport...
Rod Willis managed to keep his supercharged MX5 ahead of the first of the Birkins in the results. It was interesting to see so many clubmans on the day - Birkins, Westfields and a PRB.
Vito Forte's recently upgraded BMW M3 looked spectacular on track, as did the powerhouse Skyline GTR of Bruce Hawley, both being driven with real commitment - and a pleasure to watch.
As ever, it was great to see some of the big classic V8 muscle cars in action.

We also ran a closed event the same day - the first round of the Wheels World Evo versus WRX Championship. February - Italian Car Superkhana - report, results & photos
The second annual Italian Car Superkhana was held successfully in February as a prelude to the Italian Car Day exhibition (to be held March 1st at Mulberry on Swan). We attracted a field of 24 Italian cars, plus late in the planning added ten non-Italian cars to add some spice to the event. So we saw ten Fiats. nine Alfa Romeos plus a Lancia and a Ferrari in action. Unfortunately we had withdrawals of a Maserati, a Ferrari and one each of Fiat and Alfa Romeo, which would have boosted the numbers. The ten 'other makes' were one each of Porsche, Caterham, MG, Mitsubishi, Mazda, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Suzuki and Mazda, giving a good spread.
Several of the competitors were first-timers, and from the feedback afterwards, the event was thoroughly enjoyed by all. On the first of the four runs we had a few drivers 'wrong way', unusually, all Alfa Romeo drivers. A couple of good spins were achieved during the day too...
The results were incredibly close, with just 0.23 of a second splitting first and second place. Results are shown below by Italian cars and 'others'. Pleasingly, fastest of the 'others' was driven by an Alfa Romeo owner... Congratulations to all those who drove so well.
We enjoyed beautiful warm weather for the day. Winner of the raffle was MG driver Rami Brass who can now boast he owns an Italian car - a lovely 1:18 scale Fiat 500. The amount raised for charity by the day will be announced at the presentations at the Italian Car Day on March 1st.

January Superkhana Report
A complete change of course layout made for an interesting challenge for regular competitors, but was hailed a great success by all participants. With new start and finish locations, and a fast, flowing course drivers enjoyed the new layout. We had quite a few first-time entrants amongst the field, and as usual a great variety of cars entered.
The day saw some very enthusiastic driving which resulted in more than the usual number of spins - but all was well, no damage done except possibly a few bruised egos... We had a full field again (on a long weekend) with a few on the waiting list - a reminder to ensure you get entries in early so as not to miss out.
Congratulations to Joe Douglas for his win on the day - continuing the Mitsubishi Evo domination from last year. Well done to Paul Manolas and Murray Armenti in their Clubman and MR2 for taking up second and third places respectively.
The February event is open only to Italian cars, and in March we have a morning session of Evo versus WRX, followed by an afternoon session open to everyone.
