1975 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 Convertible by Avon-Stevens PRICE REDUCED
Avon, which later became Avon-Stevens, was a British coachbuilding company initially formed in 1919. One of their most successful products was a convertible roof conversion on the Jaguar and Daimler XJC of the mid-1970s. These conversions were done with the approval of Jaguar Cars and some were sold by Jaguar dealers. The well-designed conversion incorporated additional strengthening engineered into the cars. The company proudly proclaimed that the soft-top roof wouldn’t flap or distort at speed when up. The mechanism and materials were of a high quality. It is believed that only fifteen Daimlers were converted, where a lot more Jaguars were subject of the Avon-Stevens work. This car is understood to have been a new vehicle when converted. According to the Avon-Stevens Convertible Register, in addition to this Daimler, three Jaguar XJC Convertibles by Avon-Stevens presently exist in Australia. This car had belonged for many years to the President of the Daimler Club in Great Britain. His son brought the car with him when he migrated to Australia about 25 years ago. He had the car repainted in Western Australia. After two years he sold the car to the present owner who has since had it in his collection for over 20 years. As one of about a dozen of his cars, it has been used predominantly for club events and displays, where it has always attracted attention. He is pleased that the car was always particularly reliable. The only major mechanical work he has had to undertake during his ownership was having the rear end rebuilt. It has always been kept garaged. A new soft-top in the correct material was fitted a few years ago. The wood on the glovebox lid would benefit from being re-polished and the steering wheel centre pad has suffered from the heat. A small quantity of parts will be sold with the car. Tools, handbooks and manuals are with the Daimler. Number plates D 1975 can be transferred with the car to a Western Australian buyer. This car features the legendary comfort and performance of the XJC, but with the exclusiveness of being a coachbuilt convertible – and an extremely rare machine. My 1985 Buick Park Avenue has only had two owners, the first owner had the vehicle shipped in and converted to R/H drive here by American Autos, he passed away and his wife sold it to me via Chellingworth Motors in 1990. 1913 Rover Clegg Colonial Tourer
4 Seater Tourer - Engine number QK1682. The Rover Company employed Owen Clegg to design a simple, practical and up-to-date car from 1910. His 12hp and 18hp cars, first introduced in 1911, were immediate and spectacular successes. Many were sold in Australia and more than a dozen of the ‘Home’ models survive today. This car however, is a rare ‘Colonial’ model made only for the 1913 season. There are thought to be around three left in the world. This vehicle, another in the UK and bits of one in New Zealand. They differ from the ‘Home’ models in the front and rear axles along with the size of the wheels. This was to combat the colonial conditions giving the car more ground clearance. The restoration has been on and off over the past 35 years. Edward has had the motor professionally reconditioned, the interior stylishly fitted and finished and the hood work also completed professionally. Specifications: Four cylinder side valve engine, 2.3 litres. Three speed crash gearbox. Worm and wheel final drive. Thermosyphon cooling (no water pump). Gravity fed fuel (no fuel pump). 1950 MG TD Roadster PRICE REDUCED
A remarkably well restored example of this classic British roadster. Always a WA car, it was purchased by the previous owner 48 years ago and he undertook its thorough restoration. The owner had been Rolls-Royce trained in England and his immense skill set was used to produce a very high quality restoration. All mechanical components of the car were completely rebuilt, from engine, gearbox and differential, suspension, brakes, steering, to smaller items. The wiring was redone, chrome-work refinished, and new leather upholstery fitted. A new hood with wet weather gear, cover for the hood and even a car cover were made. The bodywork received an equally high level of attention and remains immaculate today – eight years after the car was finished. A year after completion, the car was sold to a friend of the restorer (who not long after passed away). The car has not been in the rain since the 1960s! It has covered approximately 500 miles since completion. It starts very easily and with the sports air cleaner, has a very sporty induction noise. The car has a very tight feel to it. This car has had just two owners in the last 48 years. Inside, outside, under the bonnet and underneath, this car stands out as being thoroughly, competently and carefully restored. 1973 Triumph GT6 Series 3
This late model 1973 Series 3 Triumph GT6 has only completed 40,000 kilometres since new (documentation to prove). Described by the motoring press as “The poor man’s E Type” supports the classic lines of the marque including the one piece bonnet assembly. This car is in remarkable condition inside and out and is still in its original colour of magenta. This is not a nut and bolt restoration, but a vehicle that has been maintained to a high level in its original condition. 1914 Sunbeam Sporting Model 12/16hp 'Coupe de l'auto'
Car Number 8536. Engine Number 8528. This remarkable 12/16 Sunbeam is a very rare example of the highly desirable Sporting Model from a most prestigious manufacturer. Known colloquially as the Coupe de l'Auto, being the fast production version inspired by the successful Sunbeam Coupe de l'auto racing entries, the car has a lightened and balanced engine, stronger crankshaft, drilled pistons and rods, extra large valves and manifolds, oil supply and filtering equipment and other additional equipment supplied at the factory. The car has a known history to 1920 and only three owners from then all in NSW, Australia. It spent most of its life in the Coonamble district in western NSW, and has undergone a very thorough restoration over the past few years leaving it in brilliant driving condition. A very rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable Edwardian sporting tourers built. It is still finished to factory specification for the 12/16 Sporting Model. The major body panels are original including the cowl the rear tub and mudguards, and other restoration has been completed to a very high standard using all the original components. The car originally had no hood, and none has been fitted during the restoration. A folding hood was added and used on the car in the late 1920s (see photo above of this actual car). The special competition-type engine features significant factory improvements including drilled pistons and connecting rods, lightweight engine block, oil supply and filtering equipment, a stronger crankshaft than standard and extra large valves and manifolds. The wheels are 880 x 120 and the radiator is the larger "Colonial" type fitted to most cars exported from England. The car has an electric starter and dynamo. The lights, horn, magneto and exhaust system are all original to this car. The interior is trimmed in leather as per the original pattern. Presentation is very good and the scarcity of this important Edwardian sporting model will make it a welcome addition to many events here or overseas. More photos on request. Can in NSW. 1926 Bayliss-Thomas Tourer
An amazingly original car in one ownership since the 1950s, this delightful four cylinder ohv Meadows engined example has a lovely three speed gearbox, starts on the button, and gives positively zippy performance with a top speed of around 60kph. The charming Beritish tourer is totally original but for a recent repaint in the original colour. In excellent mechanical condition, minor attention to items like the original wiring will make this even better to use. The hood fabric on the easy to operate one-man top is now somewhat brittle but intact, and a full set of side curtains survives under the commodious rear seat. 1984 Porsche 944
2.5-litre, 5 speed manual, rear wheel drive, WA registered, A/C, electric windows, electric mirrors, engine immobilizer, sunroof, 6 disc CD changer, and comfortable Recaro front seats. Australian delivered. Due to my partner purchasing another car, it is time to let go of my 944 which is just not being used much these days. Always garaged, looks good like a classic coupe does, drives great, and sounds like it should. Engineered with a rear mounted gearbox for perfect 50/50 weight distribution it is a joy to drive. Having no power steering allows for a more responsive feeling and due to the car's small dimensions and light weight it is still easy to manoeuvre at low speeds. 1972 Triumph TR6 Roadster
Specifications: 2.5 Litre inline six cylinder, twin 1¾ inch Stromberg carburettors, 4-speed manual transmission with Overdrive, independent rear suspension, front disk brakes rear drums. Car was imported from USA in 1990 and underwent left to right hand drive conversion. Vehicle was stripped to a rolling shell and exterior stripped to bare metal in preparation for respraying. Engine was reconditioned including new rings, big end and main bearings, new seals, gaskets, etc. Head had valves seats ground, valve stem seals replaced. Gearbox was stripped and new bearings, seals, etc replaced. Drivetrain inspected and necessary universal joints and bearings replaced. Cooling system flushed and pressure checked. Front and rear coil springs were reset. Car was resprayed with two-pack in the engine bay and acrylic on the exterior. All wiring was replaced with new and headlights replaced with sealed beam units. Interior was all new cream/tan and burgundy upholstery, carpets, dash pads, hood and tonneau cover. Engineers inspection with Vic roads certification. The car competed in the Tour ‘T’ Adelaide rally in 1990 and placed 1st in class, 2nd in teams and 5th place overall. The car outperformed fuel-injected TR6s in the same categories. The car has sat idle under cover in a garage for 9 years un-driven. Two months ago the brakes, clutch and fuel systems have been overhauled with new seals and fluids. The car drives well, looks great and sounds fantastic. A real head turner with a ton of British class, this Triumph is one not to miss. 1939 Mercury V8 Indy Road/race Special
This is a sensational road or track car constructed to private order specifically for historic road rallying, circuit racing, hillclimbs and sprints. Plans obtained from the USA and provided by historian/author John Blanden formed the basis for the build by engineer Jeff Gransden during the 1970s. The coachwork, a lightweight alloy 2-seat roadster was constructed by Elfin Sports Cars of South Australia and features leather trim and upholstery, large capacity fuel tank, quick detachable mudguards, lights and spare wheel (for competition use) and full split tonneau. The chassis and mechanicals/running gear are pre 1939 Mercury Ford V8. The fully balanced, flowed, ported and polished engine features high compression pistons, crankshaft, Offenhauser heads, twin Stromberg 97 carburettors, Mallory ignition, large capacity radiator, water pumps and much more. A close ratio gearbox with remote change, heavy duty rear end, revised steering ratios make for excellent road holding. Power is in excess of 130bhp, top speed around 180km/h and acceleration is stunning: yet the car is perfectly docile in heavy traffic conditions. Currently campaigned in vintage and historic events, and on club registration. The car is in virtually mint condition, it has a known history since new, having been in storage for over 20 years prior to my purchase in 2003. The total mileage is less than 15,000.
