Pre-event information:
Entries are now open for one of the most exciting, challenging and affordable motor sport events of the year - the 2011 Shannons 1-Day Classic.
The touring road rally will incorporate a fabulous variety of competitive stages, all on sealed surfaces, including sprints, autokhanas and superkhanas. Twenty competitive stages are planned for the day, at some great driving venues including the Motorplex and Speed Dome, plus some new locations. There is no navigation, just simple route instructions provided in the Roadbook. The event is open to all cars of a sporting nature. To encourage older cars we're offering a special deal for entries of cars pre-1970 - a $100 discount, making their entry fee just $525. For cars 1970 and newer the entry cost is just $625 per car. This includes all competition stages, lunches for two people, car door number stickers, the Roadbook, the Presentation Night Party, Scrutineering sausage sizzle and more. The best value rally in Australia! Please note that AASA applies an insurance fee of $77 to each car.
It’s easy to enter
The event is very straightforward to enter - you need two people, each with a competition license (we can issue these at $50 per person for a 12-month AASA license) and good quality helmets. Either crew member can drive any stage of the rally. There will be multiple runs at some stages so each can enjoy a go.
Your car needs to be in sound, roadworthy condition, and fitted with a first aid kit and fire extinguisher - see Event Regulations for full details.
Scrutineering (safety checks of the cars) and Registration will take place on the Saturday afternoon. Presentations of awards will be at a party on the Sunday evening. Awards will be presented for many different car age and engine capacity categories.
Plenty of first-timers enter these events, so don’t hold back - if you’ve been thinking of having a go, act now! Take a look on this website for reports and photos from the brilliant 1-Day Classic events held over the past few years - ask anyone who has competed... you can expect the 2011 Shannons 1-Day Classic to be even better! Great driving, great cars, great friends, great fun...To ensure smooth running of our full schedule, entries will be strictly limited. Therefore it will be necessary to act quickly to ensure you secure a place - many of our recent events have sold out, so don’t risk missing out. Complete the Entry Application Form and send it in. You can scan and email the form or post it.

2010 Shannons 1-Day Classic Report
An excellent, full day was enjoyed by the full field of cars entered in this year's Shannons 1-Day Classic. Participants, officials and spectators enjoyed seeing a brilliant variety of cars in action - 20 different makes - completing the full 19 stages on the schedule. Stages were held at several locations, in two vicinities to minimise Transports, with some completely new layouts and a number of well-proven favourites in the mix.
A few cars succumbed to mechanical issues and only one suffered any panel damage (minor enough to complete the rally without issue), and by the end there was a very happy group of competitors. To quote one of the emails received afterwards "I had a GREAT DAY !!! I especially like having the stages at basically two locations, it saved a lot of time driving between stages and allowed me to have two goes at the same layout. Please thank all the officials, every one of them were friendly, patient and had a smile on their faces. Well done on another very well run event."
The sun shone all day - some of the officials came away with some slight sunburn even, perhaps meaning that winter is over...
There was plenty of exceptional driving shown throughout the day - always a pleasure to see. The fabulous drifts from Jeff Ash's Lexus to the amazing late braking by Brett Morse in his BMW M3 and well-controlled power slides from Grant Stephenson's RX7 Turbo - all impressive stuff. And the sounds... Brendan Anesbury's distinctive sounding (loud) Porsche 911, Vito Forte's menacing sounding 4-cylinder BMW M3 and the rasping turbo sounds of Ross Drewery's Falcon G6 Ute each quite distinctive.
We had a great turnout of people to the Presentation Night at The Vic Hotel in Subiaco. Thanks and presentations were made, and fortunately some of the officials also attended, being thanked in the speeches.
Thanks were expressed to the team of volunteer officials, the senior officials, supporters and sponsors for the event.
The senior officials & Stage Commanders were: Martin McCoy, Ian Mann, Brock Mann, Rubin Sadique, Vince Troth, Sue Ridley, Tim Fowler, Natalie Holburn and Paul Blank.
Supporters and sponsors: Wheels World, Exide Batteries, Biante Model Cars, Creating Communicators and especially, our major sponsor Shannons, whose support of motoring for enthusiasts around Australia is unequalled. We are very fortunate to have their support – this is the only rally the have taken naming rights for in Australia. A cheering round of applause confirmed the support of participants.

Awards -
The award presentations began with the Rally Director’s Choice - to quote from the awards night speeches: "There were plenty of contenders. Who couldn’t like Luca’s De Tomaso? I used to own a De Tomaso, so I have a soft spot for them… Then at the other extreme of the Italian cars, Alberto’s Fiat X1-9 is very appealing.
Vito’s BMW M3 has to be right up there. And so does that Lexus IS-F of Jeff Ash. And somehow I find the retro HDT Commodore really appealing.
But as the question was 'What car would I most like to have been competing in today’s event in?', the answer is Rod Willis’s Corvette-engined MX5. And that’s this year's winner."
Congratulations to all the class winners and outright place getters, especially Simon Gunson and Sharon Payne, who said they'd always felt like the bridesmaid and never the bride, finally coming away as outright winners. Well done.
