It’s really great when an event runs to schedule and there are no unforseen huccups. The 2011 AEM 1-Day Classic ran like clockwork, with 22 competitive stages packed into the day.

If there was a Bad Luck Award it would have to go to Jeff Ash whose puncture after the first stage meant he missed a whole lot of stages while going off to get a replacement tyre. And Vito Forte would have to come close… just when things were looking really good for a possible win – a faulty fuel pump sidelined his BMW. A steering problem took out the black Commodore before the day’s end and during the Co-Driver Challenge after the event Rod Willis’ Mazda had a problem between the radiator and the fan.

Other than that there was no bent metal by the day’s end – which is always a very positive thing.

There was certainly some very impressive driving – just like we all like to see. There are always a few drivers who really impress me with their car control and car setup. Can you believe how Tsung Lee’s Honda Civic turns in? And everyone was also impressed by how Phil Gibson’s Toyota Soarer was pedalled. Of course Jeff Ash in the Lexus IS-F used more rubber than anyone else, but was smiling more then anyone else too... Seven different people achieved first place on a stage.

To the Thank–Yous. First up… Keeping the event to schedule was a great crew of officials – from Stage Commanders to timers and marshals – all did a fantastic job. They’re a dedicated, helpful and always cheerful group. In particular, thanks to our Stage Commanders: Rami Brass, Rubin Sadique, Brock Mann, Martin McCoy, Terry Mann – they and their teams made the event run seamlessly. Also, a special thanks to Ian Mann, whose jobs have included being the Steward for the event and tabulating the results. To our team of Scrutineers: Brock, Rubin, Martin and Benny – thank you. I’d also like to thank Helen Lunsmann who has kindly taken over Natalie’s role in handling Registration in the period of my new little daughter’s birth. The baby came a long today – off to a good start - her first motorsport event at 6 ½ days old…

Pre-event information


BE A PART OF THE AEM 1-DAY CLASSIC... Action packed with twenty great competition driving stages planned including sprints, superkhanas and autokhanas. With 22 competition stages, some exciting new stages are a part of the mix.

Entering is easy, you just need a roadworthy sporty car, competition licenses (we can issue these), helmets, extinguisher and a first aid kit - no need to modify your car, buy race suits or anything else.

And get set for the most exciting day you can imagine behind the wheel...

The entry fee is still just $625 per car (for 2 people) which covers Scrutineering, all competition stages, the Roadbook, lunches, the Awards Presentation Night, trophies, car door number stickers and much more. A $77 fee per-car is applied by AASA.

Scrutineering and Registration will take place on the Saturday afternoon, and the rally will run all day Sunday with the Awards Presentation taking place on Sunday evening. The entire event will be set in Perth metropolitan area, on sealed surfaces. Classes for different engine size and ages of cars.

Act quickly - the first 1-Day Classic rally was sold out in just 8 days. Places are limited.
