SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18th 2007

A new kind of car event was held on Sunday, November 18, 2007 in Rockingham, Western Australia. Sports Car Sunday was open to all coupes and convertibles and attracted a very broad range of cars. In all over 200 vehicles were displayed during the day, with a huge crowd of 45,000 people in attendance. Sports Car Sunday was held in conjunction with Rockingham's annual Spring Festival.

The informal show drew an excellent mixture of cars from the exotic to everyday classics, as the photos illustrate. The organizers were pleased to see a variety of machinery from Japanese, English, American, Australian and European makes represented - and nobody was disappointed.

The Rockingham foreshore proved to be an excellent location with all the local attractions, plus the Spring Festival giving people plenty to do.  Significantly, the new event had free entry for visitors and car exhibitors.

The Charity Rides supported Telethon Speech & Hearing centre for children, with people able to have rides in cars spanning Ferraris to a vintage Fire Engine for the price of a small donation.  Special thanks to the owners of the Charity Rides vehicles who donated their time and cars for the day.

Several car clubs took the opportunity to promote their activities and marques, with the Southern Districts Mini Club's display being of note.

Prizes were awarded to exhibitors, by lucky draw rather than by judging their cars, so everyone had an equal chance - winners were drivers of a Studebaker, a Mini and a Fiat - exemplifying the variety of cars on display through the day. See our photo gallery below.

Oldest car on show was a glorious 1910 2-seater Hupmobile Roadster.

The organizers of Sports Car Sunday and the Spring Festival are very pleased with how this first-time effort worked out and already have plans for a bigger, better Sports Car Sunday next year, with some additional features. Stay tuned for details.

Special thanks to: Ian Mann, Brock Mann, Andy Hamilton, Anne Douglas and Andrew Stevens for all their assistance.
