MG CAR CLUB KWINANA MOTORPLEX DAY

Above: A Bugatti Type 57 is s rare sight anywhere in the world... this multi-million dollar car with a wonderful history was one of the stars of the day.

Organized by Automotive Events Management for the MG Car Club and their invitees, this event incorporated three competitive driving stages, each being run three times. These included an autokhana, drags and a sprint. Fortunately the weather was perfect and the whole event ran without a hitch.

It was wonderful to see such a great mix of cars entered, spanning a 1955 MG TF to a 2006 Lotus Elise. Cars of interest include an electric powered MG TF and 1964 Renault 8. Of particular note was a magnificent 1934 Bugatti Type 57 TT, with a fabulous early racing history which is fresh from a restoration which has taken over 50 years. The car was driven competitively for the first time here since the 1950s.

Cars were matched for the drags, which provided some interesting competition.

At the end of the day the fastest car in the Autokhana was the Brad Wearne who put down some spectacular times in his Westfield. The drags were won by the Lotus Elise 111R of Richard Cooper (12.75 seconds), closely followed by Dave Eustace's turbocharged MG Midget (12.87 sec). The best time on the Sprint course was achieved by Paul Dodds in the big Triumph 2.5. No MG in the top ten places - they'll have to do something about that for next year! Well done all.
